Fishing Advice For The Gold Coast.

Fishing the Gold Coast waterways.

Southeast Queensland fishing advice. When fishing estuaries you must consider the time of day, tides, structure. So what I am going to do here is a basic break down on where, how and the most common fish to catch in estuaries. Bream are the most sort after fish to catch in estuaries and one of the easiest to catch, the best way to chase them in Queensland is to fish around the structure, bridge and jetty pylons and rock walls with a running sinker rig on a run in tide late afternoon or early morning with mullet, chicken gut, prawns, worms for bait. Flathead is another very common species in Queensland to chase in estuaries. The best way to go about this would be fish the last of a runout tide throughout the day along the edges of sandbanks with strips of mullet, pillies, and whitebait. Flathead is also a good fish to catch on lures so what you can do is to walk along the river edge casting small soft plastics. Whiting is another common species we catch in our estuaries and I find fishing for them at night time usually gets me better results. So what we do is fish on top of the sandbars with a bit of seagrass on them. We fish the last of the run in tide with a running sinker rig with soldier crabs, yabbies and worms for bait. TIP: Go out the day before and gather as many soldier crabs as possible and then mush them up in a little bit of sand and use for burley. TIP 2: The biggest mistake I see people do when fishing from jetties and bridges is they try and cast as far as possible away from the bridge, jetty there fishing from, WRONG DON’T DO THAT! and here is why pylons are structure will hold small baitfish and where you find the bait you will also find the bigger fish that are feeding on the bait. For best results in estuaries fish next to the pylons or cast under the jetty or bridge not out into the middle of nowhere.

Here is some great fishing advice for the Gold Coast.

COOLANGATTA: This little town on the southern end of the Gold Coast gives you easy access to the Tweed River for Bream, Whiting, Flathead fishing. On the southern beaches are Tailor, Whiting, Bream, and Mulloway. Kirra, Greenmount and Snapper rocks provide good lure and bait fishing for Tailor, Bream, and Mulloway.

CURRUMBIN: Elephant Rock is a popular spot for Tailor and Mulloway fisherman. Currumbin Creek is another good spot for fishing with the family with plenty of Bream, Whiting, and Flathead to be caught in the creek. In calm weather Currumbin Creek gives boaties access to the close reefs with plenty of Squire, Cobia, and Mackerel at different times of the year.

SURFERS PARADISE: Has a nice surf beach with plenty of gutters, most people who fish here do so very early morning for Whiting and late afternoon into the night for Tailor and Mulloway.

SOUTHPORT: Is the key to Gold Coast fishing with its famous Broadwater which is the key for boaties because it's the main access to the coasts offshore reefs.

The coasts reefs hold a variety of fish, with the close reefs (12 to 18 ftms) hold Snapper, Mulloway, Cobia, Sharks, Mackerel and Marlin.

The 24 to 36 ftm reefs hold Snapper, Mixed reef fish, Cobia, Marlin, Wahoo, and Dolphin fish, and the good old 50 ftm line holds all pelagics, mixed reef fish, Pearl Perch, Amberjack, Yellowtail Kingfish, Sampson fish.

The Gold Coast Broadwater its self is a huge bulk of water with many waterways which stretch all the way up to Moreton Bay and are full of fish such as Bream, Whiting, Flathead, Tailor, Mulloway, Trevally, Mudcrabs, Sandcrabs and Prawns.
